The 2024 season has wrapped up for the Wilsonville girls’ soccer program! Coming out of this season with a victory yet again as OSAA 5A Champs. They developed a high level of performance as the season went on, and began to create an amazing team dynamic. Therefore, allowing them to surpass multiple teams to the finals.
Wilsonville Varsity Girls Soccer had many achievements but one of the most outstanding performances they had was in the quarterfinals against Crescent Valley. Starting with a rough performance, they persevered and ended up scoring three goals on them to win 3-2. This is because of their grit and determination to get the job done. This team was very dedicated to winning state this year for not only themselves but the seniors as well.
Reese Holsey, a senior forward, shares that her favorite part of senior night was, “Walking into the locker room and seeing all the decorations and gifts. I was super excited to see our posters and all the notes from everyone. It was a super special experience and brought us all closer together.”
Senior Night was a very special time for the whole team because it helped build their community and show their appreciation for the Seniors who worked so hard to make their team a family. As well as appreciating how much effort they put into motivating each player to work their hardest on the field.
Tegan Waters and Brooklyn Bybee are two Seniors who show how far you can go with the amount of tenacity you bring to each game. They both played on Varsity from their freshman year up to their senior year together.
Tegan Waters is an exemplary example of what it means to be a leader. She made varsity her freshman year and continued to grow as a player into her senior year. This year she was First Team All-League and First Team All-State. She finished the season with 8 goals and 8 assists as captain and led her team to victory on numerous occasions. For example, she helped score one of the winning goals against Crescent Valley along with Justine Sheets, to put them into the Semifinals.
Not only did this team have amazing statistics and a medal around their necks at the end of the season, but they created a team to remember. Many players on this team showed gratitude for the amount of effort their coach, Alex Boehm, put into creating a program that was balanced with hard work and fun.
Shea Moomaw, a junior defender, shares that the highlight of her season was “making the first team, it wasn’t something I was expecting, so seeing all the work that I put in being rewarded was special and important to me.”
Not only did Shea represent as first team on the Girls’ Varsity soccer team, but 3 other players did as well, Tegan Waters, Justine Sheets, and Camryn Schann. They brought everything they had in them to the field this season which helped build team chemistry and brought enjoyment to the viewers in the stands.
Shea Moomaw also states, “The thing that made me most proud was winning state because there was a time when we thought that was not an option for us, but we overcame it, and we did something that only two other teams have done in Oregon History.”
The ‘Oregon History’ Shea Moomaw talks about is the amount of times a team has won state in a row. This is not the first time the Wilsonville Girls Varsity Soccer team has won state and it is not the second either. This year will be their fourth year winning the 5A state title which is an extremely difficult accomplishment, as only 2 other teams have done it.
Another key player on this team was Camryn Schann who led in goals at the end of the season with 23 goals and 13 assists. She put 100% effort into every match and practice and it paid off at the end of the season. Camryn ended her 2024 season with 3 major accomplishments, First team All-League, First team All-State, and All-State Player of the Year.
Peighton Olson, a freshman midfielder, says she’s most looking forward to, “Playing with new players and winning another state championship.”
Overall, this team did exceptionally in the 2024 season and is looking forward to continuing their winning streak by gaining a fifth state medal next year. As well as representing Wilsonville High School.
