Wilsonville cross country races northwest classic
September 15, 2018
As the bus pulled into the parking lot at Lane Community College, runners from 1A/2A/3A/4A schools were already racing on the dirt path that wound around the bright blue track. Excitement and nerves settled into everyone’s stomachs as they filed out of the bus, one by one. It was the day of the Northwest Classic. For some, it would be their chance to race on the state course for the first time. For others, it would give them an opportunity to scope out the competition and hopefuls for state.
The course was relatively flat, excluding a small hill at the beginning of the race. However, what did pose a problem for the racers was the amount of dust that followed them throughout the race. Regardless of this setback, Wilsonville Cross Country raced extremely well, placing 8th out of 23 teams for varsity girls and 12th of 28 teams for varsity boys.
There were also several standout races during the Northwest Classic meet. Jack Burns (senior) had an all time best of 16:49.80 for the varsity boys. Sam Prusse (junior) gained a new personal record with the time of 18:54.50 for the varsity girls alongside her sister Gabby (freshman), who raced 19:57.90. Many more from Wilsonville had outstanding races and new personal bests.
As their season continues to progress, we hope that the Wilsonville Cross Country team will continue to do well and wish them the best of luck for their upcoming meets!
