Wilsonville High School has added to our selection of sports! Starting in the spring of 2025, boys’ volleyball will be up and running. This new addition will bring more opportunities, successes, and interests to WVHS.
This is the first boys volleyball team that Wilsonville High School will have. OSAA is adding boys’ volleyball teams to schools like Parkrose, Estacada, and Hood River. Most teams will be within NWOC, with a few from other school divisions.
Physics teacher and JV girls volleyball coach Brian Ramm will take on the head coaching position. Ramm has been a huge part in getting the team started up, while also helping get more boys involved.
“I am excited this is the first time the OSAA has implemented a new sport since 1984,” says Ramm. The boys’ volleyball team will be new for OSAA and new for Wilsonville High School, and the team is looking forward to the successes and challenges they may face.
With this being a new sport, it is starting as a club. Because it is a club, it has a lack of funding. Ramm mentions, “ We don’t have any actual funding through the district, so we have to rely on fundraising, and the boosters.” Ramm and his team are hoping to get enough money fundraising for things like jerseys and gear.
With the season right around the corner, Ramm and his team have been conducting pre-season practices. These practices are for those who are interested in coming out and playing with the volleyball team. The practices endure a lot of skill-building, community-building, and getting the feel for the game in preparation for the season.
Junior Charlie Eggert has become very involved with the team and enjoys playing the game. He says, “I am most excited about the games against fellow school districts and seeing the team grow as a whole with new skills.” The beginning of the season has excited Eggert, and he looks forward to the aspects the sport includes.
Ramm mentions, “It’s something new and exciting and gives people a chance to be leaders.” The boys’ volleyball team will give opportunities for good leadership roles, while also bringing something new and exciting to the community for all to enjoy.
The team will continue with preseason practices until their season starts in early March. Ramm and all the players are encouraging others to join the team to experience the opportunity of something new and thrilling!
