The girls basketball season is coming towards the end, and they are feeling good about where they are at right now. The season has brought new encounters through easy and difficult games, but the growth the team has faced is immeasurable.
The team gathered together during the summer, which counted as a spark to the start of their season. They endured games from different levels while playing in California, which helped them get a feel for the court early on.
Their season eventually started early November, and they have been preparing for playoffs ever since. The growth within the team, on and off the court, has the team feeling pretty good going into playoffs the first week of March.
Junior Fareeda ElManhawy mentioned, “Practice has been going really well and we feel like we are really exceeding going into the end of the season.” Their well crafted practices will carry into their preparations for playoffs and help bring success on the court.
“We’ve been working on our defense a lot,” mentions ElManhawy. Defense plays a large role during the success of each game. The team has been looking to sharpen up in that area, which will help with their overall game going into playoffs.
Freshman Addi Smith also talked about the team’s improvements saying, “Our fast paced offense is really good and we also have such fun team chemistry.”
Since the start of the season, the girls have bonded well with each other, and it helps that most of the players were returning players. The team chemistry has helped with the teams success, and will continue to help them during playoffs.
The team, as of right now, is currently ranked 9th in OSAA (5A) and 1st in league. They have played a total of 24 games, being 13-0 in league, and 15-9 overall.
Their successful league season will be carried into playoffs starting March 7th, 2025. If the Cats continue to be ranked 9th in OSAA, they will be predicted to play in the quarterfinals to the 8th seed, which as of right now is Corvallis High School.
The team is looking forward to the upcoming postseason, and finishing up their league play within the next week.
