A common class that the students of Wilsonville High School take is Photography. It emphasizes the student’s progress towards becoming better photographers and helps them become more creative in how they see the world. Taking pictures is important because it captures the moment, situations that you will remember forever. A memory can only live in someone’s mind, but taking a picture of it creates a better visual. Later in life, when you are older, the memory fades a bit, but photos can capture memories, emotions, and moments that matter.
Memories are important to most and this is seen through the students of photography. Ari Avila Escobar comments, “I have a passion for taking photos, especially with my friends because I know that I can always look back at them for memories.”
The students of Photography 2 shared their favorite photos below in the gallery, and why they are their favorites. They shared these photos because it had a deeper meaning to them below the surface. All the students enrolled in Photography have one mission and it is to share their story through the pictures they take. Throughout the whole campus are photos being taken in different periods. You may see a student taking a picture of a plant or a peer studying, but the message behind all photos is different to each photographer.
Photography is all about evoking feelings and emotions. The message behind photos can be expressed through someone’s emotions, actions, opinions, and more. That is why it is important to get the background behind the work to understand the thoughts running in someone’s mind. Additionally, a photographer’s choice of perspective, angle, and lighting can greatly affect the viewer’s emotional response to the photo. Finding the reason behind a person’s purpose for incorporating a certain visual aspect to the photo is a principle to appreciating the background of one’s artwork.
A junior at WVHS, Norah Arthur, shares her favorite part about being a part of the Photography class is, “Getting to walk around and take pictures, and it’s fun because I’m with my friends.”
The photos displayed in the gallery are meaningful to each student in their own way. They worked extremely hard to capture the photo’s essence, and create a meaningful story behind the image for the viewers. When you look at the photos taken, grasp the different elements included in them, and you will value the piece much more. You may not realize it, but photography is tough and contains a high level of expertise, so note that the next time you look at the cover of a photo.
