This year, the Wilsonville Dance Team made it to the State competition. Leading up to this they had a successful season, accomplishing many goals, improving their skills, and becoming a family unit.
The State Competition consists of many talented teams, one including our dance team representing Wilsonville High School. The State competition requires focus, dedication, and teamwork. This is something the Wildcats had been working on before the State competition had even started.
Leading up to the competition from March 20th to March 22nd, the Wildcats had been preparing by entering into competitive competitions, performing during assemblies, and having productive practices.
All of these things helped point out areas the team could improve on, while also understanding their strengths that would guide them to success during competition season.
Sophomore Julie Murray mentioned, “Our successes during State were really coming together as a team, working hard, and pushing ourselves to do the best we could together.” During State, the team’s skills, which they had been working on all season, were really coming together.
The team was entered into two dancing categories, Pom and Hip Hop. During both of these events, the team was able to place 4th overall. The team was proud of their performance and success they encountered based on their results.
Team Captain, Emalee Knepper mentioned, “The team really pulled themselves together this year and deserved the placement we got.” She added saying, “We are going to come back stronger and want to see more placements in the future.”
The team has reflected on their success this season, but they are already ready to prepare for next season. They are eager to carry their success over from this season, and adapt well to what they may face in the future.
The dance team is proud of their accomplishments they faced during the State competition. They look forward to the start of next season and all that is in store for them.
