Wildcats girls soccer capture first win against Crescent Valley at home game on 9/18
The Lady Cats gain their first victory with the score of 5-3
You heard it here first folks, the Lady Cats gain their first victory in home game against Crescent Valley with the score of 5-3. Like many of the Cat’s past games, there was an early goal scored from CV off a corner kick putting them ahead 1-0.
The players on and off the field knew the losing streak needed to end. Although they had not played any 5A teams up until this point, they were ready for a win. Head coach Dwight Sheppick stated, “The season starts today,” when talking in the locker room to the Cats. Regular season technically does not start until next Tuesday versus Scappoose (at Randall stadium, 7 O’ clock be there!), Coach Sheppick was adamant about his girls getting the W last night.
Game play was quick, Wilsonville was dominating the field. Cats goal, Crescent valley goal, Cats score, Crescent Valley score, back and forth until the score was level at 3-3.
Freshman; Dalton Mermis had a non-assisted goal off of a corner kick that curved perfectly right into the goal putting the Wildcats ahead by one. In the last few moments of the game Teagan McNamee: senior, captain, takes her time getting to the right side of the field, making move after move, she pulls it back and secures the cats lead for the win, 5-3.
The Lady Cat’s next battle will be away at Canby High School at 7pm, wish them luck as they take on their last preseason game! See you there!
