Wilsonville High School’s Skateboard Club is rolling into the spotlight, offering more than just a place to talk about tricks. Founded by students passionate about skating, the club is creating a space for community, creativity, and personal growth.
“We created this club to build a community based on the hobby and talent of skateboarders at WVHS,” said Pabel Garcia , one of the club’s co-presidents.
The club’s vibe goes beyond classroom walls. Members often head out to Villebois Skate Park to skate together, share advice, and cheer each other on. “Well for skate club we’d usually meet at Villebois Skate Park and we, you know, start tearing it up,” said club member Mario Ulloa. “I think of it as therapeutic because you have the nature around and then you have the gnarly sound of someone messing up a trick dozens of times, then finally getting it done with cheers.”
What makes the Skateboard Club stand out is its sense of encouragement and inclusion. Whether you’re learning your first ollie or landing tre flips, you’re surrounded by people who want to see you succeed. The club blends the adrenaline of skating with a strong sense of support and belonging.
Beyond skating, members talk gear, watch videos, and share stories that reflect the highs and lows of learning the sport. It’s a place to celebrate progress whether it’s sticking a new trick or simply showing up with the courage to try.
For students interested in joining, the Skateboard Club meets weekly during lunch in room 227, usually on Mondays and Fridays. Info about meetings is posted on Instagram (@wvhs_skatebording_club) and in the Google Classroom (code: eds3qpp). So whether you’re looking to skate, spectate, or just meet new people this club is ready to roll.
