Wilsonville boys soccer came off a great season last year, finishing 10-5 and 23rd in Oregon. Although the boys’ soccer team lost a lot of senior talent the previous year, this could have an impact on the team.
Wilsonville boys’ soccer is starting the season off fairly well, having a 3-1-1 record. Their only loss this season was Beaverton losing by one goal. Wilsonville has 9 games left to play until the playoffs. The previous year, Wilsonville lost to La Salle in the 5A semifinals.
Sophomore standout Jace Norquist said, “I think we have a lot of talent on our team at almost every position this year, but last year we had a lot of individual talent.”
Wilsonville’s mindset going into the season was to play as a team and not as individuals.
Wilsonville lost a lot of its individual talent last year, with all of them graduating. Ruben Vasquez, who is now playing for George Fox as a true freshman, led a strong Wilsonville team last year. Losing talent like Vasquez could have an impact on how the team plays this year.
Wilsonville has a rough path to travel this year with decent teams left to play with a rematch of the 2024 semifinal game. Tristan Mallette quoted, “I believe with the solid team we have… we have an opportunity to go far. The only team in our way is us.”
Wilsonville has a lot of young talent with Jace Norquist, Noah Spisak, and Bryan Guzman all being sophomores already getting major playing time on the varsity level. Noah Spisak said, “Our team in the next year or two has a solid chance to me a state champion competitor.”
Even though Wilsonville lost a lot of individual talent from graduation and other things, Wilsonville still has a very good chance of being one of 5a top competitors. Wilsonville under the wing of head coach Ian reschke their is always a hope of being in the playoff picture.
