Gabi Moultrie is a senior here at Wilsonville High School and has been on the varsity girls’ basketball team since her freshman year of high school. She is a Division 1 commit to Utah Valley University, also known as UVU, as she committed last year as a junior to the Wolverines.
Gabi is a five-foot-eight point guard playing every minute and leading the team to victory multiple times. OSAAtoday reports, “The five-foot-eight Moultrie was leading the team in scoring for the third consecutive season, putting up 20.3 points, and is among the state leaders in assists.” Gabi says, “It’s been really cool that I’ve been able to do that since my freshman year. It’s something I’ve worked really hard for, so I’m excited to see that hard work pay off.”
This year, the varsity girls’ basketball team has a new coach, Tyler VanAcker, who has been with Gabi ever since she moved here. Coach VanAcker reports, “I´ve coached Gabi since 7th grade, with 2 different degrees, either coaching her or just being in the same program. It’s been cool to see her grow not just as a player but also as a person.”
Gabi Moultrie is one of the best shooters this school has ever had. She can drain a shot from anywhere with or without being man-marked the whole game. In her sophomore year, she got to 1,000 points and is on her way to 2,000 points with the upcoming start of her senior season.
“I’m excited to reach that milestone because after I reach the 2000 points mark, I will be the all-time leading scorer in Wilsonville girls basketball history.” This is a very big deal, being the all-time leading scorer in Wilsonville girls basketball history. Moultrie stated, “Scoring my 1000 points was really exciting, and I’m even more excited to get the chance to score 2000 points while playing at Wilsonville.¨
“It’s a memorable achievement that should be celebrated. Only 25 kids over 50 years have done this. The legacy Gabi is establishing at Wilsonville. She’s setting the bar high for future wildcats. It’s a symbol of her hard work and dedication to the game.¨ Coach VanAcker says
Playing at Wilsonville has been a fun ride for Moultrie, and she’s excited to get this last year to finish it out. As well as Gabi doing all these amazing accomplishments like being conference player of the year, making 1st team all-state for 5A girls basketball, and many more.
In the playoffs last season, Wilsonville made a great run but didn’t make it all the way. From MaXpreps, Wilsonville’s victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Gabi Moultrie.”MaXpreps says that Gabi was the best player in that game and created the most chances for her team.
The team is very excited to see Moultrie meet her goal and set a record for the school. Come support the girls’ varsity basketball team this season.
