Not only is school back, but fall is also back. But when we think of fall, we think of football games, whether it’s high school, NFL, college, etc. What also pops into the mind is soccer.
Both the boys’ and girls’ soccer teams have produced good records so far. The boys are currently 5-1-1, ranked 11th in the state, and the girls ‘6-2, ranked currently 3rd. And the football team moved to 3-1, with their win this past Friday against Forest Grove, 51-7. They are also ranked 4th overall behind Summit, Silverton, and Dallas.
But everyone knows about football and soccer…
The Volleyball team is currently ranked 14th, and is 9-3. They beat Centennial 3-2, Rex Putnam 3-1, and have 3-setted 22nd-ranked Canby, Parkrose, and Hillsboro, along with wins over 6A schools like Roosevelt and Southridge.
“I think we’re very overlooked.” Sophomore Karli Vannoy states. “Last year I thought we were really good; we lost a lot of seniors, but I think we can be just as good this year.”
Despite already winning seven games, they have also dropped three. Their first loss came against La Salle, along with later losses against Hood River Valley and Silverton. All three games have not won a set.
“When we played La Salle, it was tough because they had a lot of girls six-foot and above, so they had a decent height advantage, which affected us more than It should’ve. I feel like we also just beat ourselves a little bit. A lot of balls that just went off our hands and out of bounds.” Vannoy adds, “We’re a young team, overtime and throughout the season we’ll get better.”
“I think our goal is to reach our full potential. There’s been games where we’ve played well, there’s also been games where we’ve played really badly, throughout the season, and as games continue on, we want to play solid and be consistent, to where state comes and we can have a shot at winning a state championship.” Vannoy states.
Wilsonville’s next three-game stretch is the NWOC three-team event that takes place at Wilsonville this Wednesday, where they will play Hood River Valley and then Rex Putnam, and then they will participate in the West Linn tournament this upcoming weekend, where they will be expected to play two games.
