Wilsonville High School is a staple in the community of Wilsonville and West Linn. The school was first established in 1995 due to the enormous population count at West Linn High School and the ever-growing population in the Wilsonville area. Eventually, the school board successfully approved the building of Wilsonville High School.
WVHS is part of the West Linn-Wilsonville school district. Before its opening, Wilsonville was included in that district but had only a small primary school. High school students had to travel from Wilsonville to West Linn or other neighboring high schools. The growing population led to an increased demand for a local school.
Wilsonville High is the only high school in Wilsonville. When the it originally opened in 1995, Wilsonville was called “High Tech High” because the school had at least two computers in each classroom, and internet access for all students. At the time of its opening, the school’s capacity was about 750 students, but new plans emerged to allow growth.
In the 2000s, major remodels and upgrades were completed that doubled the capacity of the school. In 2009, upgrades to the auditorium and gym were finished— fixing the lighting, flooring, and adding acoustics. Because of the expansion, the attendance rate more than doubled. And by 2017, the educational capacity was at about 1,450 students.
In 2016, Wilsonville High School received a silver ranking from U.S. News and World Report and was ranked 7th in the state. The standardized testing showed that Wilsonville was above average in reading, math, and science. Until 2023, Wilsonville did not have a proper performing arts center. The original auditorium was undersized and not properly equipped.
There was a bond passed in 2019 for the district, which provided the funds for a further expansion of the school. Adding a 600-seat auditorium and a black box theater. The old space was converted to a career and technical education space with a wood shop, a robotics lab, and more classrooms.

At the end of the day, Wilsonville High School is a very accomplished school with a big reputation within the city of Wilsonville. With plans of expanding in the near future, only time will tell if Wilsonville will continue the great legacy the students and faculty have put on the school.
