A positive classroom environment is crucial for high school students to succeed in learning. A classroom environment can dictate a student’s mood and learning experience, effectively setting up their future.
Students often enjoy a fun class environment, not just from the activities, but also from the setting in the classroom, with the arrangement of the displays around.
A positive classroom environment enhances engagement and gives a sense of belonging, supporting academic success, encouraging focus and collaboration for students.
Creating a positive and successful classroom environment involves multiple factors. Students believe teachers should establish structure and expectations in the classroom.
Junior Ashlyn, Camacho points out the importance of a positive classroom, stating, “To be able to learn and enjoy the setting you’re learning in, it is important to be around people you want to study and learn with. I think that encourages a positive environment.”
A calm, chill environment with people you want to collaborate with is something lots of high school students here at Wilsonville enjoy. Being around people students wanna be around can sometimes be positive and negative.
Often, there can be some challenges when it comes to the size of classes. These challenges can stem from limited resources to lots of different students’ needs, which can subtract elements from a positive classroom environment.
Junior Adam Ibrahim recognizes the challenges at times with plus-sized classrooms, pointing out, “At times when you have a lot of students in classrooms, it can be a little hectic at times, but it has students with lots of different backgrounds collaborating and overall making a class fun and enjoyable.”
Research shows that well-designed classroom environments enhance and improve students’ outcomes.
Camacho reflects on this, stating, “When you have a teacher in an environment who cares, I think people will show up and actively participate, having an extra sense of motivation.”
Camacho adds on, pointing out, “When a teacher actively cares about their students from more than just learning, it creates engagement inside the classroom.”
An environment is more than just educators; it’s the setting of a classroom, embracing diversity and promoting inclusion. The high school has a wide range of backgrounds throughout our classrooms, reflecting everyone, creating a positive and happy range.
Throughout Wilsonville High School, many different clubs embrace different cultures around the world. Ibrahim, who is in the MSA-Muslim Student Alliance, reflects on the community, stating, “Being able to have different cultures represent themselves increases his diversity in different cultures coming together.”
Overall, if you want a positive school environment and community, it is a key factor to embrace culture and diversity, making sure everyone is capable of having a positive learning experience, preparing students for their bright futures beyond high school.
