College-level computer science courses
This year, the school district has created a grant for twenty thousand dollars for the school to spend on new computers for the computer science classrooms.
Mr. Hyman, the school’s primary computer science teacher advocated for a more technologically elevated learning environment. Now in all AP Computer Science classes and most of the digital design classes (Photography, Web Design, etc.) there are new tower sized computers with new monitors to supplements them.
This is the first year we are seeing the greater difficulty computer science class, AP Computer Science A. Within the current curriculum, Mr. Hyman has been teaching students the basics necessary to code within the Java language.
To learn more about Mr. Hyman’s AP Computer Science A, we’ve interviewed Mason Luetjen. When asked how he feels about the work that’s getting done in AP Computer Science A, he says:
“I believe are really doing groundbreaking work here in Computer Science A. We are learning Java, a coding language that can run across multiple platforms, and was also used to make Minecraft. Now if that doesn’t make our work groundbreaking. I just don’t know what does.”
Thanks so much Mason! Truly inspiring work coming from this class. Excited to see what Mr. Hyman and the comp sci gang has for us for the rest of the year.
