As the time leading up to Thanksgiving draws near, many high school students and millennials gear up for their own version of this special, foodie holiday. Starting this weekend, many people will begin planning, eating, shopping as the spirited fall/winter season is underway. Friendsgiving is believed to have begun with the popular sitcom, Friends. The characters on the show are a group of friends that decided to put on their own Thanksgiving, hence, Friendsgiving. Everyone is able to bring their own traditions to the table that they’ve adapted from their families. This year I got a chance to talk to several high schoolers to ask what they’re doing for friendsgiving and what it means to them.

Ali Nelson, senior, said “It’s a fun time for friends to bond over eating and be grateful for their friends, I started doing friendsgiving when I was in sixth grade and haven’t stopped since”. We asked Ali on what she prepares for the big day,  “ I like to bring homemade rolls and ham” however, “I don’t spend more than $25 dollars on food for it”.

Athena Lackides, senior, speaks of her holiday experiences; “Friendsgiving is a way to eat as many calories as possible” and “to prepare I bought a $5 walmart rotisserie chicken and tried to pass it on as my own”.

The team here at The Paw Print would like to wish all readers a happy and healthy Friendsgiving and Thanksgiving!
