Intramural 3-peat
2019 was another successful year for the Wilsonville senior intramural basketball team. For those who don’t know, intramural basketball is a rec league for players from West Linn and Wilsonville who don’t want to have such a competitive season. There are no practices and games on mondays and thursdays every week. The teams are divided into West Linn and Wilsonville with underclassmen and upperclassman on their own teams. This year there were two Wilsonville and three West Linn upperclassmen teams. Both Wilsonville teams made playoffs this season, but only one team came out on top. The first team got away with a tough win in their first playoff game by only winning by two points. The team made their exit in the semifinals by losing by 15 points to the number one seed West Linn team. The second team got their first round bye and had a lights out shooting against the number two seed West Linn team and won by 20 points. The number one seed West Linn took on the number three seed Wilsonville in the 2019 championship. The game started out slow with a score of 1-0 after the first five minutes. Soon after Wilsonville jumped out on top with a 15 point lead. They maintained this lead for majority of the game. With seven deep threes from Jack Gatto and a Nathan Overholt dominating the paint these guys were having one of their best games. As the game reached the end Wilsonville only maintained a seven point lead entering the last five minutes of the game. West Linn then got within three points and had the ball with the last 18 seconds. The guys played a strong 18 seconds of defence and ended up winning. This wasn’t their first championship though. A few guys on the team got their third ring in a row this year. Although they already won twice before this year was special for them.
