Wilsonville theatre department opens Much Ado About Nothing
On February 21st, Wilsonville’s Theatre Department had their first of six showing of William Shakespeare’s Much Ado About Nothing. The students participating in this production have been working on this production since December, and their work shone through on their opening night.
This production of the show was set in 1919 era England, just after the end of World War One. The story focuses on four characters, and their conflicting relationships with one another. Beatrice and Benedick despise the idea of marriage, while Hero and Claudio do plan to get married, and the antagonist Don John plots to foil Hero’s Wedding.
Shakespeare can seem intimidating at times, do to its rather outdated style of speech, but this show is without a doubt a comedy. Meghann Yochim, one of the show runners of the Junior Java, saw the show on opening night. Yochim stated, “I found it so funny! My friend and I were sitting in the front row cackling the whole time because we found it hilarious. The parts where Beatrice (Averyl Hartje) was overly sarcastic or the eavesdropping scenes were probably the funniest.”
Much Ado About Nothing has show dates on February 23rd and 28th, as well as March first and second! Doors open at seven pm, and tickets can be purchased online or at the door before entry. Come support Wilsonville students as put a hysterical twist on this classic play.
