‘Out of this World’ photo gallery
As spectators, fellow robotics teams, and students filed into the gym holding the robotics Pacific Northwest District Event last Friday; they were greeted by the dreamlike ‘Out of this World’ artwork from Wilsonville High School’s thriving arts program. For a fleeting moment, the combination of individual pieces and an outer space mural transported the viewers into what felt like an alternate universe.
Several supernatural pieces were arranged from all art levels, photography, digital art, and sculpture. Though they were attuned to the theme of the event ‘Destination: Deep Space’, each was singularly impressive. However, the pieces were not limited to being space themed. There were some exquisite pieces like Julia Soares’ with a fairytale feel.
In the hall leading to the gym, boards were decorated with incredible two-dimensional art. The artwork ranged from paintings of extraterrestrials to everyday photos with graphically designed surreal twists. These creative graphic designs were paired with pieces like junior Violet Clyne’s watercolor painting of an alien-like creature.
The main showcase was set up in the center of the lunchroom near the gym. A wooden fold-out board was constructed and rolled into the middle of the room. On one side there was a carefully organized grouping of charcoal drawings, acrylic paintings, graphics, and photographs. Senior Isaac Boger’s painting of an alien was featured, which emulated his strong, unique style as an artist. Boger’s piece was one of many that made the exhibit a point of interest at the event.
In the glass case behind the main exhibit, a multitude of sculpture and jewelry from Angennette Escobar’s classes were neatly displayed.
On the side facing the event itself, there was a mural in which multiple students from Shotola-Hardt’s class painted. The students illustrated a scene of a jagged landscape with distant planets and comets built upon a dark background. In front of the mural, an assemblage of cut-out boards was situated. After gazing at the galleries of individual pieces, the crowds attending the event got the chance to take pictures with the astronaut and alien cut-outs.
The art exhibit made the event for people passing through an overall memorable experience. Not only did students and teachers support their robotics team, but the gifted artists who showcased their work as well.
Below is a photo gallery of some of the artworks shown in the exhibition last Friday and Saturday.
