Boys win 5A basketball state championship
As the boys wrapped up their regular season with a League Champions victory they packed their bags and drove down to Gill Coliseum for the quarter finals game against the Pendleton Buckaroos. Keegan Shivers led his team in scoring with 14 points and Wilsonville came out with a 70-40 win. The next day the boys took on the Silverton Foxes. Dakota Reber had a big game with a double-double of 16 points and 10 rebounds. And on the defensive side Keegan Shivers again made a impact with 2 blocks and 3 steals. This game was a nail biter in the fourth, but these boys have battled like this before and ended up beating Silverton 50-45. The cats then went on to the 5A basketball championship, for the fifth time in a row, on Saturday where they faced the Churchill Lancers. This was another face-off between Wilsonville and Churchill in the playoffs. The boys took off in the first quarter getting a 10-2 lead. Churchill battled their way back to even the score and from there on it was neck and neck throughout the whole game with each team changing the lead. Zach Rivers had to make an early exit in the second quarter with a shin injury, yet this didn’t stop the cats. They wanted it more. With Dakota Reber’s 21 points, Keegan Shivers double-double with 12 points and 11 rebounds, and Jack Roche’s 13 assists the cats were able to end their season with a 67-58 win. This senior class was able to finish their high school career out on top. And Wilsonville was able to get their third State title in five years.
