Girls tennis season under way
The Lady Cats Season has begun with a few pre season match ups
The lady cats wrapped up week two of non-league play after they played in Southridge on Monday. They were also supposed to have a match at Lincoln but it was canceled because of rain; rain and tennis don’t correlate well. The cats have the week off for spring break but resume the week after to take on The Dalles on Tuesday and West Salem at home Thursday.
The cats have lots of reasons to be excited about their season, there are many talented seniors on the team with many years of experience. The girls compete with singles and doubles, the varsity Cats that are playing singles are Madeline, Izzy, Elle and Katya and the doubles are Anna and Sydney, Makayla and Gracie, Sophi and Honour, and Maddie and Meghann.
They have tons of potential to sweep league play because of new head coach, Coach Fowler. Coach Fowler is a teacher at Wilsonville high school that all the students love and respect. Having a good coach is important in any sport but espically because the ladies tennis team last season had to deal with maybe not the greatest coach of all time. For Coach Fowler he focuses on little things like tardiness and being responsible, he has respect from the players and that is key. The team voted who they want as their team captains for the season and they nominated Seniors Sophi Heilig and Anna Sweetland, Coach Fowler loved who the team chose as captain and is already noticing there leadership and accountably to the team. I will be covering the ladies tennis team for the season and I’m looking forward to watching them improve and hopefully make it to state.
