The fire in Villebois
A huge portion of the Wilsonville Community is the ever-expanding neighborhood called Villebois.
Over the weekend, a four story apartment complex burned to the ground along with several cars and other portions of the surrounding property. According to an interview done by KGW8, there is an overwhelming amount of evidence that indicates this fire was not accidental. “The apartment building did not yet have any gas or power connected, which eliminated several reasons for an accidental fire.”
But according to Wilsonville officials, “There is still no evidence of arson in this case.” (koin.com interview 04/02) There is still much investigating to be done on this matter, as it seems that the majority of Wilsonville community members still don’t have much of an idea as to what caused this.
What does this mean for future development in Wilsonville? One of the reasons that Villebois is so popular is because there always seems to be new buildings and homes created all of the time, making the neighborhood extremely crowded and the hazard of another potential fire is increased with every structure that goes into the neighborhood. I am positive that all of the safety and concerning possibilities are taken into careful consideration by the city, but there is still a question of whether or not having a large number of buildings in a small space is a safety concern. I think that in the future, the city will take building more homes even more seriously and take this incidence into consideration when doing so.
