XC shakes up Harrier Classic
This past weekend the Wilsonville Cross Country team competed in the Harrier Classic, which was held down at Bryant Park, Albany.
The boys’ varsity came in fifth place for team scoring, out of thirty highly competitive teams. Sophomore Ben McClelland came in first for Wilsonville, finishing with a time of 16:53. Jacob McClelland crossed the finish a mere four seconds after his brother, and Sebastion Pinger followed two seconds after the second McClelland. Josh Aguilar, Mason Weisgerber and Caleb Yaso concluded our varsity boys.
Yaso thought the meet went very well. Yaso explained that while the course was tiring, and mentally challenging, the PR at the end was worth it. When asked about how he believed the team did, he was positive, reporting that, “As a whole, I think we did great.” Yaso is a senior this year and a positive mentor for all up and coming cross country runners.
On the girls’ side, Senior Samantha Prusse got her personal record of 18:13, coming in second by just two seconds, after a jaw clenching final hundred meters. Her younger sister, Gabriella Prusse, fell within the first hundred meters, but still managed to finish 17th. Sydney Burns crossed under the arch within reaching distance of the younger Prusse, getting her personal record. Fiona Dunn crossed the finish line fourth out of the Wilsonville girls, shaving over 25 seconds off of her previous PR. Keira Bertell, Alexis Hagler and Kylee Rusher finished off the varsity girls, placing them third in team scoring.
With just two meets until the NWOC District Championships, the Wilsonville Cross Country team will be training hard, and readying themselves to—hopefully win yet another District’s Championship.
