Boys soccer senior night
October 23, 2016
The Wilsonville Wildcat boys soccer team dominated on field while playing Parkrose last Thursday October 20th, 2016.
It was their senior night and last home game of the season. The seniors include; Calvin Lucas (#19), Mason Bonnell (#10), Edgar Hernandez (#11), Brian Rubi (#21), Shunt Blaze (#3), Kris Wiland (#2), Riley King (#7), Riccardo Adriani (#15), and Carlos Ulloa (#5).
The Soccer team, being mostly seniors, came out with hunger on senior night and ended the game 6-0 Wildcats.
The first goal to set the tone for the rest of the game was scored by Calvin Lucas on a break away 1 minute and 10 seconds into the game. From there the Wildcat’s had fire in their stomachs.
By the end of the half the Wildcat defense held Parkrose to 0 goals, and the Wildcat offense had scored 2 more goals, including another goal scored by Calvin Lucas and a one scored by Edgar Hernandez.
“I think the team does a lot better when we have an intense practice the day before and an intense warm-up during Pregame. That’s why I believe we had success in not only the Parkrose game, but the game before that as well. When we have the whole team working hard we can do great things,” said senior, Calvin Lucas when asked why he believes the team came out so strong on senior night. Calvin also believed that the fact that it was the last home game for the seniors motivated them to leave everything they had on the field.
The Wildcat’s were just as dominant in the second half as they were in the first. The first goal was a miraculous effort by Riley King. He sprinted past the defender on the sideline all the way to the baseline and punched it in barely to the right of the goalie and just left of the goal post. The next goal after that was scored by Calvin Lucas, giving him a hat trick. The last goal, with 7 seconds to go in the game, was scored by senior Brian Rubi. Received a brilliant crossed pass from a teammate which he redirected into the net.
“We need to keep the same formation, and the same game plan. Score early and often, and maintain a strong defense. While we have scored 11 goals in the last 2 games, our defense has also allowed 0 goals.” said Calvin Lucas when asked how they are going to maintain their success for the last league game and through playoffs.
To conclude, the Wildcat Boys soccer team had a miraculous senior night ending with a 6-0 win. If the boys keep playing at maximum potential, the playoffs are looking good for the Wildcats.
