Wilsonville junior receives Division I football scholarship
October 26, 2016
Last week, Wilsonville High School’s very own junior, Draco Bynum, received some incredible news. Recruits from UCLA offered him a football scholarship. When asked about this incredible opportunity, his response was: “I’ve always adored their program, and they’ve got an amazing school as well. Plus, I am very excited to get to know the coaching staff over the next couple years.”
UCLA, located in southern California, has proven to have a very successful football program in the past. The Bruins were the Pac-12 Conference South Division champions for two years in a row and played Pac-12 Football Championship Games in both 2011 and 2012. The Division 1 program has also produced numerous College Football Hall of Famers, and a few Pro Football Hall of Famers as well. They have had a lot of success in the past, and continue to show their strength in the Pac-12. An offer from such an accomplished team truly says a lot about the player Bynum is.
Due to his astounding athletic ability, his tall size, and broad build, more than just one college will be keeping their eye on him during the next two years. At 6’5”, 250 pounds, Bynum is very strong, and quick on his feet. He has played the sport almost as long as he has been able to walk. He would agree that these things don’t come easy, and says he has definitely put in an enormous amount of effort. He hopes that this season will allow him to improve, and think about the future. The varsity tight end is one of Wilsonville’s strongest players, and with all of these offers coming for him, the next year is sure to be his best one yet.
