“If you see something, say something”

Recently, Wilsonville High School Principal Mrs. Schmidt has dispersed a message to all faculty emphasizing the phrase “if you see something, say something.” This has always been a goal policy for the school, but in light of recent events, this is something Mrs. Schmidt wants to push.

One of the main eras in which this phrase was truly pushed in the United States was during the time of 9/11. The government didn’t want the people to be constantly on edge or nervous, but they asked people to trust their guts in wrong situations. By doing this, many unsafe events could be prevented.

When talking with Mrs. Schmidt, she wanted to make it clear that this ideal was not meant to be something to confine students or to cause paranoia. Schmidt’s goal is to keep every student, faculty, and staff member of Wilsonville High School safe, and she believes this mentality is one of the ways to achieve that goal. “When something just doesn’t look or feel right,” Schmidt expresses, “question that. Trust your gut and intuition to keep yourself and others safe.”

To reiterate, this phrase is not meant to catalyze any distrust, stress, or anxiety into the student body and faculty of Wilsonville High School; it is simply meant to keep everyone aware and safe while they attend school.
