As the end of February nears, the swim season—like many other winter sports—is ending with both District and State meets. While there are many bittersweet moments following the ending of this season, everyone on the team is overall happy with their teammates and their own personal growth.

This year going into Districts, the girls finished 7-0 with their dual meet season, and the boys followed with a 4-3 dual season finish. Kayla Leon-Guerrero, Abby Maoz, Riley Lawler, Caitlin Jew, and Jensen Lorio are arguably some of the most renowned swimmers on the girls’ team. This group switched around to compete together in many 200-yard medley relays, as well as 200- and 400-yard freestyle relays to carry the girls’ team, while also competing in their own personal events.

Similarly, on the boys’ side, there were two significant additions to the team this year in the form of George Heilig and Theo Buchwald, two very elite water polo players. In turn, Vincent Nguyen, Cade Butterworth, George Heilig, Theo Buchwald, and Jay Thomas were very key swimmers this season for not only the boys’ team but the Wilsonville Swim Team as well.

Many of the previously mentioned swimmers will be returning, but sadly the seniors must say goodbye to their high school swimming careers. Seniors on the Varsity team such as Kayla Leon-Guerrero, Jensen Lorio, Camryn Pettenger-Willey, Meghann Yochim, Juliette Saccente, and Vincent Nguyen will be sadly leaving the swim team after this season, but Wilsonville won’t forget their legacy.
