30DayMovieChallenge Day 1: JoJo Rabbit
Welcome to my own 30DayMovieChallenege. There is a challenge going around but it involves watching movies you have already seen so I changed the challenge to make it watch 1 new movie a day. The first movie I watched was Jojo Rabbit and my goodness there could not be a better way to start this challenge. During the end of 2019, I was obsessed with the movie Parasite. I was saying it should win the Best Picture no doubt. My view has now changed since I watched Jojo Rabbit. Jojo Rabbit is one of the best movies I have ever seen. The director of the movie is Taika Waititi. He is best known for also directing Thor: Ragnarok. Jojo Rabbit is simply described as a movie based during the end of WW2. It follows the view of a boy named Jojo who has Hitler as his imaginary best friend. Jojo throughout the movie has to realize what the truth is in the world and not just what he has learned from Nazi propaganda.
This movie can be described as a comedy but that is just the tip of the iceberg. This movie is a perfect blend of comedy, drama, and war. I could not point out a single flaw in this movie. The acting in the movie was fantastic all around. While big names such as Scarlett Johansson, Sam Rockwell, and Rebel Wilson are all in the film, the younger actors are the ones who steal scenes in the movie. Roman Griffin Davis provides one of the best child acting performances I have ever seen. He carries this movie along in the perfect way as he is in almost every scene. Thomasin Mckenzie was stunning in her role. She provides a character that I was mesmerized with and left quite an impression on me. Let me not forget Archie Yates who might be the cutest child actor I have seen. Archie Yates is hilarious and cute in every scene.
This movie also had some of the best relationships I have seen. There are many two character relationships in the movie. One of them being Scarlett Johannson and Roman Griffin Davis. The mother and son relationship they provide is heart warming and realistic. Scarlett Johannson brings a beautiful performance as a mother who just wants to protect her child from the harsh war. She may be eccentric but that is because she is trying to protect her child with humor. Sam Rockwell and Alfie Allen bring a priceless relationship as Nazi officers looking over the Hitler Youth. Sam Rockwell has a great character arc throughout the movie. Alfie Allen helps with this arc and is the perfect character to support Sam Rockwell. When these two are on the screen together you are in for a few laughs. Roman Griffin Davis and Archie Yates have an adorable friendship as two young children in the Hitler Youth. Their innocence in the film works to perfection as it shows how brainwashed the youth were. Archie provides some memorable quotes and he is a breath of fresh air every time he shows up in the film. Finally, my favorite relationship is between Roman Griffin Davis and Thomasin Mckenzie. Oh my goodness this is my favorite relationship in film history. I watched the film 4 days ago and I have not stopped thinking about the relationship between these two. At the end of the film, I was left with a feeling I have never had before. The closest thing I could describe it as is when at the end of a Romantic Comedy and you long for the relationship they have. I had that feeling however, this relationship in the movie is not romantic. It is a relationship based on the need for each other and the bond of going through and event together that forever changed their lives. It is simply fantastic.
This movie is well thought out. The blend of comedy and seriousness is cinematic poetry. I watched the movie two days in a row and both times the film felt quick and I did not get tired of it. I could watch this movie for a whole week and I would not be bored or tired of it. Jojo Rabbit is such a unique film that it does not get boring. The cinematography is charming as it is full of colors and appealing backgrounds. This choice of color fits well with the movie and it’s tone. The writing in it is stunning as foreshadowing is littered throughout the film. There are so many little things you notice as you continue to watch. The music in Jojo Rabbit is also exquisite. The songs fit in with the scenes they are placed with. None of the music feels out of place or forced. Not to mention, I believe this film has one of the best ending scenes in a movie every. The end of this movie will be up there with Breakfast Club. I can not explain the impact this movie has had on me. Jojo Rabbit is a must watch movie. It is hard for me to describe my love for this movie. I look forward to the next time I will watch it. If you love this movie as much as me feel free to contact me at [email protected].
