Sam Blohn gives you his take on what to watch while socially distancing. What are your favorites?

Welcome back to my third day of my 30DayMovieChallenge. After watching Jojo Rabbit, I committed myself to watch Taika Waititi’s other movies. He has directed Jojo Rabbit, Thor: Ragnarok, Hunt for the Wilderpeople, What we do in the Shadows, Boy, and Eagle vs Shark.

I ended up choosing to watch Hunt for the Wilderpeople. I was not disappointed as this movie was the reason why Taika Waititi is now my favorite director. Hunt for the Wilderpeople (2016) is a film where a foster child gets put into a home out in the outback of New Zealand. The boy Ricky Baker and his foster father named Hec end up going on an unplanned adventure into the outback.

This film is one of the most fun movies I have seen in a long time. Ricky Baker played by Julian Dennison was hilarious in the film. He provides the movie watchers with plenty of quotes to say in their daily life. Hec played by Sam Neill played a rough character who has adept skills at living off the land. The relationship between Hec and Ricky is a classic tough guy and charismatic child that do not get along at first but soon develop a friendship.

Taika Waititi once agains shows in this film his ability to tell a story through the eyes of a child. This was Waititi’s 3rd major film and he was not as well known. This film was based in his native New Zealand so there is a lot of Kiwi slang. This did not affect the experience as even though I was not knowledgeable in the slang you can infer what they mean and it is still just as funny. An example of this is when Ricky Baker says “I didn’t choose the Skux life the Skux life chose me,”. This movie was so endearing and was one of my favorite adventure movies I have ever seen. I would definitely recommend this movie to everyone. It is a heart warming film that everyone can enjoy. There is something special about Taika Waititi and I will for sure be watching every film he comes out with. Ricky Baker is legendary and I had a great time watching this movie.
