Many athletes work their entire lives for the opportunity to play college sports, however few are successful. It takes drive, heart, and enjoyment of the game which can be difficult to maintain. Still, yet another Wilsonville athlete is preparing to join the ranks of those who have achieved their dreams: Keira McNamee.

McNamee has committed to playing basketball at Hope international University in Fullerton, California. The Royals are part of the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics. “It’s really exciting and such a cool opportunity,” McNamee gushed about her future. She admits that she “wasn’t even considering HIU” but when she visited campus “it felt right, like it could be my future home.”

Not only has McNamee played on the girls basketball team for Wilsonville High School, but she has also played varsity soccer and competed in track and field. “Being a wildcat means a lot to me,” McNamee describes, “through the support of my teams and the ability to grow a lot not only in the sports vicinity but as a person too; it has really allowed me to have this opportunity.”  McNamee is highly regarded as not only an incredible athlete but an extremely supportive teammate. She consistently does her best to help others feel encouraged and comfortable on the teams, while also promoting competitive environments on whatever court, field, or gym she steps onto with her team.

She attributes her success to “the people in my life, whether they are my friends, family, or even those that  I struggle to connect with or disagree with – everyone has made me into who I am today, along with every experience. I truly can’t say just one person that I give my thanks to because so many have helped.” With her competitive spirit and personality fueling her drive, it is obvious that Keira McNamee will be successful and create an incredible team environment for her future basketball teammates.
