George Krecklow had an active game on Saturday for the Wildcats. They will play Southridge on Monday

In a unique year that has seen unusual matchups during the high school sports season, another one was contested from Randall Stadium on Saturday afternoon. Wilsonville (4-2-2) took on the Newberg Tigers (6-2) in a highly anticipated game.

For the first 40 minutes, there was no score. Both clubs utilized tactical passing and slow, methodical movement to where keep the possession and limit the offense. Both goaltenders (Chase Nelson, Wilsonville, and Brian Lanier, Newberg) were up to the task, making strong saves.

In the second half, the methodical attrition continued where more hard challenges were felt by both sides. There was a yellow card awarded against Joey Friedman of the Wildcats.

At around 9 minutes left, the Tigers took a corner kick which bounced back to Isaac Williams, who then struck one into the back of the net behind Chase Nelson. The Wildcats could not return the favor over the last few, leaving them to drop their second straight.

Wilsonville is scheduled to play at Southridge at 6 pm on Monday.
