Oregon moves up to extreme risk, but how will that affect our sports?

Oregon, one of the staple states for tight restrictions regarding the coronavirus, has recently had another spike in cases. With the recent rise in cases along comes another move up to the extreme risk category. But how will this affect our sports?

Many students across the state and country have felt the impacts of COVID-19. Starting in March of 2021 sports started to come back. As the seasons developed our school and many others pushed for allowing parents and some students to watch the games. With the recent spike in cases many feared the worst. No more sports. But, luckily student athletes will still be able play.

Though, the major change for high school sports now is reducing spectators again in any of 15 counties that are moving up to the extreme risk category. This limit is at 100 spectators.

This still provides many parents to watch the games, which is much better than the start of March. As vaccines roll out the risks are starting to become mitigated. We must still take precautions and assure that we can keep our state, schools, and families safe.
