The Class of 2021 is graduating at Providence Park!
Great news for Wilsonville seniors: the Class of 2021 will be graduating at Providence Park as an entire class!
The school year for this years’ seniors has been anything but normal, but hope for a normal graduation stuck with students throughout the year. And their wish is coming true!
Within the last couple of months, however, seniors were beginning to worry if this normal graduation was truly going to happen. With the surge of COVID cases in the state of Oregon and multiple counties returning to “Extreme Risk,” the looks of an in person graduation with the entire class and family and friends looked fairly low. Many students expected a graduation by cohorts or even a drive-thru, similar to how 2020 graduation looked.
However everybody’s expectations were far surpassed when it was announced that seniors would graduate at Providence Park on June 10th, shocking almost everybody. Senior Jillian Nguyen is one of the seniors who was shocked when she heard the news. “I was expecting for it to be like a drive thru graduation like they did last year,” Nguyen admits, “so I was super surprised and really happy because Providence Park is so big!”
Providence Park is located in Portland and is where the Portland Timbers and the Portland Thorns FC play whenever they are at home. The stadium, which holds approximately 25,00 people, is a perfect location for a social distancing graduation where families can still attend. Seniors are each given eight tickets with the opportunity to ask for an additional six, making the total tickets that seniors can have fourteen.
Every Class of 2021 Senior is ecstatic to walk the stage in such a large setting and are thrilled they get such an important event as normal as it possibly can!
