This Friday is February 14, which means it’s Valentine’s Day.  On this special day, expect to see many hearts, red roses, and even Cupid. On this “Hallmark holiday” it is a tradition to send out a card, often anonymously, to one’s romantic partner or the object of one’s affection. Couples also may arrange a romantic meal in a restaurant, a movie, or something specifically special to the couple. These gestures can also be planned for those who want to impress the person they HOPE to be their significant other. Valentine’s Day is not just for lovers. Valentine’s Day can be celebrated by showing appreciation towards family and friends. Sending out a thoughtful letter or gift can really cheer up someone’s day, especially if that someone is not romantically attached. Since many people feel left out on this traditionally romantic holiday, it’s nice to be able to share encouragement, good vibes, and kind thoughts freely. Everyone deserves to know they’re being thought of and cared about.

Each student has a special way to celebrate this certain holiday; no two people are alike.

For those who don’t have a specific special person, doing things with a group of friends is always a great way to “spread the love.” Here are some of the ways WHS seniors are spending this Valentine’s Day.

“…Netflix and chilling all by myself.”  — Sam Blohn

“Hanging with my friends and going to the basketball game. After the basketball game, I’m going to my boyfriend’s house to watch a movie.” — Bella Kleiner

“I’m going to watch my boyfriend at the basketball game and then go back to his house to watch a movie and bake cookies.” — Sam Prusse

This holiday provides a great excuse to spread random kindness to your surroundings to make everyone feel special on this “Hallmark holiday.”
