Carter Cutting

Carter Cutting stands in front of the finish line after placing first in the boys varsity division. This is Cutting’s first season on the Wilsonville team after moving back to Oregon this past summer.

On October 1st, the Wilsonville High School cross country team raced in the annual Harrier Classic invitational.

The team piled into a school bus at 8:30am Saturday morning and rode to Bryant Park in Albany, Oregon, where they competed in their fourth 5k of the year.

The girls varsity team raced at 1:30pm, and ended up placing fifth out of twenty-seven teams in the top female division.

Coming in first for the Cats was junior Ella Milonovich who finished sixteenth with a 20:21.

Milonovich ran the Harrier in 2021, as well, and was excited to compete on the course again. Milonovich’s hardest moment of the race was during “ the second loop coming out of the forest since the girls were more spaced out,” but still managed to finish proud of her time and placing overall, with a new season record.

Then came Fiona Dunn finishing 23rd with a 20:45 and Sophia Gordon in 45th with a 21:54.

The remaining girls varsity runners were Cleo Christy, Caydence Rodriguez, and Julia Tatsumi, placing 74th, 113th, and 148th, respectively.

The boys varsity race started at 2:00pm and Wilsonville’s runners dominated, finishing first place overall out of thirty-seven teams for the top male division, with two runners finishing in the top five, and all seven placing in the top fifty.

Senior Carter Cutting was the first Cat to cross the finish line, and the first runner across the line, period, winning the race with a 15:27.

Cutting “got pretty sick before the race,” so he wasn’t feeling great when the gun went off, but he conceded that–besides the sharp forest turn peppered with potholes–the course was fun and was happy with the win.

Cutting also conceded that his favorite moment of the meet was “hugging my mom after the race.”

Next to finish for the Cats was Mason Weisgerber in 4th with a 15:56, Liam Wilde in 25th with a 17:07, and Nathan Wilde in 31st with a 17:25. After that, it was Parker Fish, Anthony Herrera-Alonzo, and Sean Colyer placing 37th, 38th, and 43rd.

With a fifth place finish for the girls and a first place finish for the boys, the Cats showed out in Albany, finishing with just enough time to make it back to their Homecoming dance that evening!
