On Tuesday the 14th the girl’s varsity lacrosse team for Wilsonville played their first game against Newburg high school. It was the first game of the spring 2023 season for girls’ lacrosse and it took place as a Wilsonville home game. Both teams played well but Wilsonville ended up winning 15 to 2.

Two days later Wilsonville also got to play Central Catholic on the 16th. Wilsonville varsity team also played just as well when facing Central Catholic, beating them 17- 2. The Wilsonville girl’s defense this year has significantly improved since last year’s season as this kind of point margin had not been seen as consistently last year as opposed to this year.

Last year in the 2022 season the Wilsonville girl’s varsity team played about 18 games, winning nine and then losing nine games. Wilsonville last year had some trouble when playing against Lakeridge, Lake Oswego, and West Linn losing to both of those teams twice in the previous season. But this year is looking up, with several new young additions to the team the Wilsonville girl’s varsity lacrosse team has a promising season ahead.

With this season already kicking off with two massive successes we decided to interview two of the players on the team, Bianca Pinoli and Taylor Smith. When we asked Bianca about her thoughts on the up-and-coming games this season she said, “I think we are going to do pretty well for the first bit, but I think it’s going to be hard because we lost some really good seniors.” When asking follow-up questions with other players we also asked Taylor Smith, a sophomore on the varsity team, about her thoughts on who some of our key players are. She responded “Probably, Alexis Macilmoil and Fiona Dunn on the circle, and definitely Tatum on attack.

Overall this season is looking good for Wilsonville and it looks like we are going to see great success this year for girls varsity.
