Jack Johnson helps power a devestating Wilsonville offense against the Milwaukie Mustangs.

Wilsonville baseball has been on a hot streak as of late (haven’t lost since April 8th) and looked to continue their winning streak against inner-league foe Milwaukie Mustangs.

With Wilsonville coming into the series ranked number one in the state with a 13-2 overall record and 8-1 league record the Wildcats were the overwhelming favorites with Milwaukie came into the series with a 4-9 record and a 1-5 league record.

The Wilsonville bats got off to a hot start in games one with Wilsonville winning 11-1 after a great pitching performance from Matthew Gomez and great hitting approaches all around. In game two Wilsonville got off to a slow start not scoring a run until the 4th inning, heading into the 7th inning Wilsonville was winning 5-1.

In that said 7th inning the Wilsonville offense exploded for 11 runs and in the bottom of the inning Will Hemsley finished off the Mustangs to close the 16-1 victory. Keenan Sanford commented on the slow start in game two “We had a couple hiccups early on but we adjusted and figured it out as the game went along.”

Another stellar start from Justin Schramm allowed Wilsonville to have a bad start at the plate and find a way to win in the later innings. Sanford had this to say about the first games of the series “We have been swinging the bats very well we have had good approaches at the plate and have been getting the job done.”

Wilsonville has had a good year this far and look to complete the sweep vs Milwaukie on Friday, after the Milwaukie series comes three games against Putnam.

Wilsonville looks to continue their success for the rest of the season as put here by Keenan Sanford “As long as we keep getting good outings, have good approaches, and keep hitting the ball well we should be good.”
