Juniors Grace Thompson and Kennedy Juranek before a match. The Wildcats are undefeated in league this year, and hoping to win the state playoffs.

On Monday night, the Wildcats ventured to La Salle to take on the Falcons in a league volleyball match. This was the second match-up between Wilsonville and La Salle so far this season. In the first match-up, the Wildcats won in three sets, but it was a very intense match.

This time around, the level of intensity was no different. However, this game went to three sets, which were all very close, with both teams being in the twenties in each set. The third set in particular was nerve racking, as the score went into the thirties before the Wildcats could secure the win.

According to junior Grace Thompson, playing against La Salle, and especially at La Salle is always a huge deal. “You could tell they wanted to win, and there was definitely a home team advantage.” Thompson remarked.

Nonetheless, the Wildcats managed to overcome the Falcons, all but securing their place at the top of the league. Wilsonville and La Salle are always the best two teams in NWOC, and by defeating La Salle twice, the Wildcats have found themselves firmly in sole possession of first place.

They’re hoping this success translates to the postseason, as well. Thompson mentioned, “Our biggest goal is definitely to win state, and honestly, I think we can do it. Last year, we were so close but it just wasn’t in our favor. This year, we have a lot more talent and determination.”

The Wildcats play again on Tuesday, October 9th at Parkrose.
