Join the female empowerment club

There are dozens of amazing clubs to join here at Wilsonville high school: there’s a robotics club, a French club, a drama club, and an environmental action club but one of the new and most exciting and clubs is the female empowerment club.

Female empowerment meets weekly during lunch in Dr. Guertin’s classroom. They have discussions, plan events, and sometimes listen to guest speakers. The female empowerment club works closely with the local community to create fundraisers that will help get girls in other countries education, “We hold a few fundraisers throughout the year to raise money.” Says senior, Anna Sweetland who has been a member of the club since it began last year.

“Our main goal is to not, only raise money for that girls, but also to give the girls of our community a platform to pursue something they’re passionate about…to know that they have a club of other women who would love to hear what they have to say.” Sweetland continued by saying that it’s not only women who are allowed in Female Empowerment club but that it is, “Open to everyone of all genders.”

“It’s a great way to uplift women,” says senior, Coltin Hill, who has been a member since last year, “It’s important when considering uplifting women, that men understand it is in part their job to act as allies.”

The female empowerment club has had special guests in the past, including a self-defense instructor, but don’t worry the club has a lot of super fun things coming in the future too, “We have some great guest speakers lined up, and just overall some fun stuff planned.”
