Last Friday, November 2nd, the Wildcats hosted 16th ranked Ridgeview Ravens for the first round playoffs. For the season Wilsonville is 10-0 and has the momentum in the postseason. The Wildcats started the playoffs with a bang beating the Ravens 54-20.

In the first minutes of the game, the Ravens came out giving the Wildcats a run for their money. Senior running back, Cooper Mootz, made a huge impact in the game with his explosive moves and the defense could not find a way to stop him. The Wildcat defense came came alive in the second quarter making some crucial tackles. This motivated the offense and the Wildcats finally took full control of the game.

Senior quarterback, Nathan Overholt, racked up some very impressive stats in preseason and league play. Overholt has thrown 44 touchdowns and 2,632 yards with 144 of the 198 passes completed (72.7%). He has rushed 138 yards for 3 touchdowns, and has had 2 interceptions. Overholt continues to improve his stats in the postseason and he will be a key component in winning playoff games.

The Wildcat’s focus is to treat every game like the championship and not take any opponents for granted. Senior defensive end Brenden Ertle’s mindset going into the second round is, “We are a very talented team, and we have to play up to our expectations being ranked number one in the state.” Wilsonville has a very large target on their back, and must play up to their coaches and fan’s expectations.

Tonight the Wildcats will take on the Crater Comets at Randall Stadium. Wilsonville played Crater in their first game of the season and beat them 53-20. But the boys are staying humble, and do not want their season to end here. Ertle says, “Last time we played them we beat them up pretty good, but they have improved as a team so we have to come out ready to play at our full potential.”
