Wilsonville High School hosted its annual Night Meet this past Friday, August 30th. A total of 1879 runners showed up to compete, and the stands held double the spectators. The Night Meet is Wilsonville Cross Country team’s only 3k of the year, and a few runners showed their abilities at this opening race.

Samantha Prusse placed third for the Senior Girl’s race with her personal record of 10:36. Prusse has already defined herself not only as a front runner for districts, but as a legitimate contender for the State title. “The people I run with are really genuine people and make me laugh every day,” commented Prusse on why she enjoys Cross Country here at Wilsonville High School.

Mason Weisgerber, a promising freshman, also placed third in his race, with a time of 9:43. Other runners who finished top ten in their races are Ben McClelland, Sydney Burns and Fiona Dunn.

When asked about the current freshmen’s races, Head Coach David Barkley remarked, “Our underclassmen hold up against–really anyone’s underclassmen, anywhere in Oregon right now.” After having such a successful opening meet, the team has set its sights on their first full-length, 5k, race next Wednesday in Parkrose.
