Ethan Spisak is a senior ready to make his last year of WBN remarkable! In this final year, he hopes to showcase all the aspects of the arts here at WHS. When not writing, he likes to edit videos, read, and obsess over TV shows, recommending “Merlin,” “Poker Face,” and “It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia.”

When creating this piece Camila Vera-Boyzo "wanted to inspire people to fight for themselves and what they know is right." They used Photoshop and a "technique called “double-exposure,” where you combine two different images and layer two different exposures onto a singular frame."

“Make Your Mark” district art show

Creating bird-seption Josephine Peykanu's portrait is a collage. She explains how she, "made this piece from a jumble of bird related National Geographic images from their magazines!"

Grace Ferguson's painting depicts a woman surrounded by a scene of scuba divers finding treasure. She "wanted to make it a very textured piece, a painting you would look at and one of the first things you notice is the texture of the background!"

Nikolai Kurashov created three creature pieces in which "I did pencil sketch, corrected it and then start cross hatching with liners again and again to give body volume and shadows." Finising the project with scanning and editing in Photoshop, helping to clear the image and apply more shadows.

Molly Foster named this alebrije Chuck! She explains, "His animal components are a tiger shark, capybara, and a beetle."

Having a great turn out the Art Show quickly became hard to maneuver. Many people piling the space in front of pieces, relishing in their beauty and effort.

"Ambriel" created by Kalia Huff features a blend of three critters. Huff stating "I put blood sweat and literal tears into Ambriel and I’m proud of my little alebrije."

Featuring boats in a harbor and a cityscape Joslin Jones painted this landscape. He found inspiration from "the time I spent on the Oregon Coast and how different it can feel from the rest of the state."

Paired with live music the event became a celebration of all kinds of art. People of all ages being able to enjoy the celebration.

Canvas placed around the PAC lobby stood next to papers describing to "Make Your Mark." Pushing people to doodle and draw on the canvas' to create a community art piece.

Rio Fernandez gases upon the many art pieces created by elementary schoolers. Featured in their own section, the district show is able to celebrate all ages artistic ability.

Micah Ferguson crafted this with clay, attributing "the growth of [the] brain and how our thoughts change as we get older. This symbolizes my brain growth from kid to adult."

Cadence Svendsen finds that her "painting was inspired by life. I wanted the surrounding areas to be kinda dead but when life touched it then it would be lively."

Kurashov had no inspiration to these pieces, claiming, "I thought about a guy, and I drew a guy." The title "Dancers," also has no depth, he explains "There is no meaning behind the title, just thought it’s funny."

Alannys Townsends portrait is a social statement piece on our current U.S. government. It depicts what she sees as the cost for people at the moment.

The symphony orchestra rises to their feet after their final piece, marking the end of an action-packed concert. Performing for an audience is a celebration of the work every musical student has pushed themselves toward.

James Lee plays the xylophone, an addition to the percussion of the band. Later in the concert Lee shows his talents on the piano, an instrument that stay out of use in the moment.

Ian Ellingson practices before the start of the concert. The band room fills with music as students flood in and have last-minute rehearsing.

Chad Davies conducts the group, every member of the band focusing on his direction. While Davies does guide throughout the concert, students have also practiced to a point of knowing the song.

Student musicians stand as a form, bowing. The crowd erupts with cheers, displaying their enjoyment for every moment of the concert.

After wrapping up a piece, musicians collect themselves and the things around them to prepare for the next song. Each instrument requires a different preparation.

Sophia Culp and Kemberly Ramirez jam out in Jazz band. Behind them, Xander Layne records the performance, hidden in the shadows of the stage's legs.

Band director Chad Davies discusses last minute technical concerns. Davies can be seen running around before almost every concert, trying to put together every piece of a concert puzzle.

Senior Yahir Corona trumpets away, his solo requiring a high level of focus. Students surrounding him prepare for the next portion of song they will play in.
